DOE Invests taxpayer dollars but what’s your ROI?

Remote control of your thermostat?

The silly old fashioned method of private investors investing in promising new technologies is being replaced with real smart people with PhD’s sitting in special federal agencies directing investment funds to real smart industries. Be of good cheer because these special real smart people in the US federal government have numerous programs to “invest” your money in ways that will give you good clean energy and lots of jobs. That’s right. Lots of jobs and lots of clean energy.

Using unconstitutional federal agencies (but helpful, loving ones) that operate under their own administrative law outside of Congress and the Constitution; these agencies “invest” billions of tax dollars in businesses that fit their ideological agenda. From global warming to electric cars that go where the government tells them to go; federal agencies are busily spending your money while planning your future. Let’s find out how.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says, “The Executive branch employed about 97% of all federal civilian employees (excluding Postal Service workers) in 2008. There are “about 70 independent agencies.” According to BLS, the US federal government employs approximately 2,000,000 people, making it the largest employer in the nation. At our September 22 Constitution Party of Lamar County meeting, we discussed one of those federal agencies, the Department of Energy.

DOE has a policy of investing in a variety of different businesses that fit their environmental, global warming, and “sustainable” energy models. They also provide loan guarantees similar to the mortgage loans guaranteed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. You might recall hearing about one of these loans that went to Solyndra. This is the solar panel company that went bankrupt after receiving $528,000,000 in loans backed by tax payer dollars. They just laid off 1,100 workers but don’t worry. The DOE is busy funding (with your money) lots of other new sustainable energy businesses and creating lots of new jobs.

Apparently, the DOE isn’t satisfied solely with domestic energy concerns and job creation. They’re busy “investing” $960,000,000 in the Phillipines to upgrade or install renewable energy supplies from hydroelectric sources. http://www.usnewslasvegas.com/business/doe-expects-investments-in-hydro-frontier-areas-to-reach-960m/. Of course you receive all sorts of benefits from that “investment” don’t you?

Have you stopped exhaling yet? You might want to consider doing that as the EPA declared C02 a toxic pollutant that needs to be regulated and mitigated like pesticides and toxic waste dumps. DOE has jumped in to assist. They plan (this is back from 6/2010) to invest $612,000,000 of taxpayer money to reduce C02 by capturing it. The carbon police will sequester those nasty C02 emissions by capturing them and storing them underground so they don’t ruin our environment. http://www.usnewslasvegas.com/business/doe-expects-investments-in-hydro-frontier-areas-to-reach-960m/.

By the way comfort yourself by knowing this funding came from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Just think of all the jobs that will be created by capturing C02 and storing it underground!

According to the Energy Collective; “Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (aka the Stimulus Bill), DOE officially awarded $32.7 billion in grants and contract funding to clean energy and efficiency projects across the country over the past year and a half.”. And there’s more of that smart investing coming in 2011, folks. DOE plans to “invest” $70 billion (of your money) into “alternative energy …focus will shift from the maturing sectors of solar and wind to less-developed areas like biofuels and carbon capture.” http://venturebeat.com

One area not to be overlooked is how the DOE is going to help you lower those high energy bills. Energy.gov is stepping in to do its part with its “Smart Grid” technology. “Smart grid” generally refers to a class of technology people are using to bring utility electricity delivery systems into the 21st century, using computer-based remote control and automation.” So when it looks like energy is going to get too expensive (perhaps from a collapsing currency thanks to your spendthrift government), the helpful folks at the local utility (under direction from DOE) will simply use two way computer-based communication to lower your thermostat in the winter for you – so you won’t have to – genius! Just think of all the money you’ll save when the feds lower your thermostat.

Electric bill too high during the summer? The feds will automatically raise your thermostat to reduce those pesky air conditioning bills. “A key feature of the smart grid is automation technology that lets the utility adjust and control each individual device or millions of devices from a central location.” Energy.gov

DOE is going to help all the struggling people out there who can’t afford to put gasoline in their cars. Ultimately, gas driven vehicles will be phased out and electric vehicles phased in. Don’t worry, important people like government law enforcement and politicians will continue to own and operate carbon based vehicles. After all, they are government and government is important – isn’t it

But you will have electric cars that don’t consume expensive gasoline and emit dangerous gases into the environment. Now you will need to reduce your driving to under 100 miles a day – but most people do that already. And these electric cars will usher in a new safer level of driving. They will be “tuned” to go no faster than the speed limit and that will be controlled externally by computer-based sensors that will monitor your every move.

Important government people will be able to “turn-off” streets to the new electric cars so they simply won’t drive there. For added safety, all cars will be tracked every place they go. This can prevent terrorist attacks. For longer trips, you’ll increasingly travel on the TSPLOST Public/Private Partnership built mass transit systems. Who wants to drive more than 100 miles anyway?

The Constitution Party says no to all of this. Unconstitutional federal agencies and their investment schemes are cons, conceived by apparatchiks from a system vastly foreign to the American way of life.

Here’s the Constitution Party approach:

  • The Constitution, itself, in Articles I through VI, enumerates the powers which may be exercised by the federal government.
  • The federal government was clearly established as a government of limited authority. The Tenth Amendment to the Constitution specifically provides that: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
  • We pledge to be faithful to this constitutional requirement and to work methodically to restore to the States and to the people their rightful control over legislative, judicial, executive, and regulatory functions which are not Constitutionally delegated to the federal government.
  • We call attention to the continuing need of these United States for a sufficient supply of energy for national security and for the immediate adoption of a policy of free market solutions to achieve energy independence for these United States.
  • We call for abolishing the Department of Energy.
